Jellyfish have thoroughly enjoyed making marble butterflies this week. We created a range of marble patterns with varying colours, allowed them to dry and then cut them to create a Eric Carle inspired butterfly. We are all really happy with how beautiful they look.

Starfish have been looking closely at butterflies and caterpillars this week doing observational drawings of them from close up photos as well as using watercolour paints to paint pictures of them. They thought of different adjectives that would be good to describe the different caterpillars and butterflies and had a go at writing some of the adjectives about their drawings.
Jellyfish class has been looking at the life cycle of a butterfly and have create their own cocoons inspired by Eric Carle's illustrations in the story The Hungry Caterpillar. They created pages of different shades of brown and textured the paper using a range of resources. They then cut the pieces into segments to create their own cocoons. Seahorses have been learning a song called The Tiny Caterpillar on a Leaf. This week Starfish have been using The Hungry Caterpillar book as the focus of their learning. They have used their skills of cutting, sticking and stapling to make Hungry Caterpillar hats, found leaves in outdoor learning to create caterpillar collages and been drawing caterpillars on the interactive whiteboard. They have also been writing about the Hungry Caterpillar using word banks to support them and refining their fine motor skills by cutting out leaves and hole punching holes to make it look like the caterpillar has been munching at them.
Seahorses have been observing the growth of their plants this week and doing worm dances for their wormery in their outdoor learning. Jellyfish have made their own Hungry Caterpillar hats using a range of joining skills. Jellyfish have been creating lots of artwork around flowers. We made our own gardens using real flowers found around the school and painted our own large scale flowers on our patio whiteboard.
In outdoor learning this week Starfish used clay to create flowers and plants. They found natural resources like sticks and stones to mark make on the clay to create patterns on the leaves, petals and centres of the flowers. |
