Now the weather is warmer the children have been enjoying water play, together with sand, outside. They love mixing sand and water with other resources and transporting it around the outdoor area.

The children have been settling back into nursery after the easter break. We have seen some wonderful imaginative and collaborative play, led by the children and their interests. The children have been decorating Easter eggs with natural materials. We painted and decorated boxes to make houses of straw, sticks and bricks and then used them in our play. The children are now using lots of language from the story in their imaginative play. We have started to share books of the story. The children love joining in. The have been using brick, logs and other loose parts to build houses for role play outside. They have also been using blocks to build inside and there have been other activities linked to the story too. The children were excited to make Mother's Day cards. On the cover they printed flowers and stuck on hearts. Inside they made marks or wrote their name and drew a picture of their Mummy. The children have been watching tadpoles grow from frog spawn. They have been finding out about frogs in books, making pictures and playing with frogs too. They have been singing 5 little speckled frogs and counting frogs. The children found out about the year of the dragon and made dragons using their fine motor skills. The nursery children love seeing bird in the jungle, especially the tame robin that we see everyday. This week we have been playing with bird activities and bird bingo, talking about their coloured feathers and markings. We have taken part in the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch, noticing and counting birds in the environment and making marks to record this. We always have items like hats, fabric, beads, bangles, bags, glasses available- so the children can independently use their imagination and move around the nursery in their costume. |
