Jellyfish have had a busy week learning about the Queen and celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We made Union Jack flags, crowns, and decorated cakes to share with families at home. We have had such a fun and busy week learning about the Queen. These are a few of the things we did. Last week Starfish class were investigating and exploring 2D shapes. Firstly we explored their properties and made pictures using different 2D shapes. Later in the week, we tried to make different 3 sided and 4 sided shapes using two large triangles. We described the shapes we had made to each other.
Turtles had lots of fun making pictures out of shapes. We talked about the different shapes that were used and reasons for using those particular shapes. Turtles thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Quince Honey Farm and have learnt a lot about how bees make honey and help the environment. Jellyfish had a fantastic time at Quince Honey Farm. We got to see the bees in their hives up close and learn how they make honey. We tasted 4 different types of honey and even made our own candles out of beeswax. In the afternoon we explored the hexagon gardens by doing a busy bee bingo hunt and played in the indoor play area, the play hive. Last Friday ,Starfish and Jellyfish class had a day out at Quince Honey Farm. The children and staff had a wonderful day which was full of interesting things to do and see. We learnt how bees make honey and saw inside a beehive, which had thousands of bees in it. We actually tasted different types of honey ,which for some of us was the first time. We rolled and made our own wax candles ,which was very tricky ,as the warm wax was very fragile . After lunch we explored the environment and went on a wildlife hunt. The children loved the willow tunnels and maze. Finally we had a bit of time playing in the soft play area before returning back to school. We all recommend Quince as a super family day out. Starfish class have had a very exciting session at forest school this week. We dug in the ground looking for mini beasts and made potions using water and fragrant flowers and herbs. But most exciting of all was working with Mr D showing each of us how to make fire and some of us actually achieved this !
Turtle class have enjoyed being outside on the castle this week. We have been climbing, balancing, playing hide and seek and much more. |
