The children have been learning and writing about the lifecycles of frogs, beans and ducks by watching the changes to our tadpoles, plants and ducklings. They have been talking about the human life cycle too, and we loved seeing their own baby photos.
They are also learning about new life and the symbols of Easter and they enjoyed making an Easter garden. They have used different methods to make beautiful Spring flower artwork.

The last two weeks we have been looking at how things grow. We have planted some grass seeds, carrots, beans and potatoes. We will be keeping a diary to see how the plants change over time. It was lovely to be outside in the sun!
The children learned about the Hindu festival of colour. They printed colourful handprints and sprinkled on powder paint. They also danced to Indian music- waving and throwing pom poms and scarves in the air to replicate the colourful scenes! The children have planted seeds this week.. To start our new topic "Roots, shoots and muddy boots" the children have been engaged with activities inspired by the story Jack and the Beanstalk. They have made glittering magic beans from clay and enormous beanstalks from construction toys as well as other play based learning. Jellyfish have had a busy week celebrating Chinese New Year. The children have learnt about the Chinese zodiac story of "The Great Race"- using puppets to act the story and writing what they can see in the pictures. They have tried copying the symbols in Chinese writing, used chopsticks in sensory play and made amazing lanterns. In the classroom we have had a restaurant serving Chinese food and also watched and tried dragon dancing. The children chopped vegetables when we cooked a sweet and sour stir fry and ate it with their chopsticks! The children have been sharing the book "Peck Peck Peck" by Lucy Cousins. They have been exploring birds imaginatively in the classroom and looking at bird information books. They have played bird bingo- talking about the parts, colours and markings on the birds. Outside they have been ticking off birds with photos and clipboards as well as going on a class bird spotting walk. We have filled bird feeders and hope to attract more birds to the patio area. This week the children have been using balance scales to compare heavy and light objects and then to find the mass of objects using bricks. They have also been finding the capacity of different containers using cups of water. The children enjoyed a day at Skern Lodge for our topic ‘Where the Wild Things Are.’ They hunted for ‘wild things’ whilst completing activities such as the assault course, traversing wall, tunnels, spiders web, stepping stones and dry rafting. |
