We have been learning how polar animals are adapted to their frozen habitats. This week, we have investigated if fur and blubber really do keep animals warm. First we placed our uncovered hands in iced water to see how cold it was. Then we put our hands inside a ‘fur’ (fabric) bag and placed it in the iced water. Finally we put our hands inside ‘blubber’ (a bag of vegetable fat) and placed it in the iced water. We found out the 'fur' and the 'blubber' stopped the cold reaching our hands and they kept us warm - just like a polar bear keeps warm!
