Swallows visited the Burton Art Gallery and viewed photos taken by a local artist-photographer and made clay faces which represented the people in these.

Swans loved our trip to Burton Art Gallery. We observed and discussed the work of the artist James Ravilious and then sketched our own interpretation of our favourite piece. We then took some of these images back to the classroom and used some of the faces in the photos to create portraits out of clay. The children in Swallows class designed and made their final sculpture. They chose wire to make their dinosaur strong and then covered it in clay. This week we looked at how to join pieces of clay together and create a strong hold. We also talked about how we could create different shapes by moulding the clay over something and then leaving it to dry. In our swimming session we learnt about how to float. We practiced floating on our back for if we fell in water and a mushrooms float for if we were caught in a wave and needed to right ourselves. In art, Swallows looked at sculptures by the artists Antony Gormley and Alexander Calder and created their own using tinfoil and wire. Swallows class enjoyed an exciting trip to Lyme Regis. They learnt about fossils in the museum and searched for them on the beach. |
