Our new topic this half term is 'Sow and Grow'. On Tuesday we enjoyed planting seeds, making grass heads, studying flowers and seeds to draw and paint and we also learnt about the function of the different parts of a flower.

To launch our new topic we went for a spring walk around the school grounds. We found lots of signs of Spring including a discussion about the sun and days getting longer. We are learning about expressive art this half term. In one of our sessions we used primary colours to paint our paper and then used everyday items to add texture with another colour. The children have been exploring famous paintings by Cezanne and Picasso exploring the colours and shapes using different tools. Kingfishers are enjoying Forest School and have been team building, using tools and learning how to make fires. Year 2 had a wonderful time exploring Exmoor Zoo for animals that were adapted to living in the cold. Kingfishers had a brilliant time performing A Miracle in Town this week. Well done children for a fantastic performance.
The children had a brilliant time exploring Rosemoor Gardens. We made Christmas decorations and explored the gardens. In the past week we have been to Rosemoor gardens, made chocolate logs, visited Arlington Court and have performed our Christmas play. Woodpeckers spent a wonderful sunny winter’s day at RHS Rosemoor in Torrington on Wednesday. We explored the woods, lake, kitchen gardens and played on the park. After lunch we worked with the Rosemoor Staff to collect natural items to make our own Christmas Wreath and then we planted a ’Snowman’ pot of peas to grow at home. On Thursday Woodpeckers had the pleasure of performing our Christmas play of A Miracle In Town. We loved acting, singing and dancing to everyone!
