As part of World Book Day, Woodpeckers enjoyed a live interactive interview with Helen Stephens, the author of How to Hide a Lion. In English, we have been using her book for our writing, creating our own stories of 'How to Hide' our own animal. Helen Stephens drew the lion and she read some of her stories to us. We then worked with her 'live' on screen to draw her latest character - Peggy the Dog. We also enjoyed dressing up as our favourite story characters.

Kingfishers have enjoyed watching their grass grow in class. They decorated their pots on engage day, planted the seeds and watered them.
To support our learning of the book - How to Hide a Lion at School - with How to Hide an Animal in the Park. Our new topic this half term is 'Sow and Grow'. On Tuesday we enjoyed planting seeds, making grass heads, studying flowers and seeds to draw and paint and we also learnt about the function of the different parts of a flower.
To launch our new topic we went for a spring walk around the school grounds. We found lots of signs of Spring including a discussion about the sun and days getting longer. We are learning about expressive art this half term. In one of our sessions we used primary colours to paint our paper and then used everyday items to add texture with another colour. The children have been exploring famous paintings by Cezanne and Picasso exploring the colours and shapes using different tools. Kingfishers are enjoying Forest School and have been team building, using tools and learning how to make fires. Year 2 had a wonderful time exploring Exmoor Zoo for animals that were adapted to living in the cold. Kingfishers had a brilliant time performing A Miracle in Town this week. Well done children for a fantastic performance.
