This term our topic is Ready, Steady, Cook! We had a fun engage day making fruit skewers, rolling and chopping playdough, peeling and grating carrots and drawing our favourite fruits and vegetables.

Kingfishers have been exploring Devon's countryside and farmland through art. They used pastels to create a continuation picture.
Swans class visited Ilfracombe Aquarium. We enjoyed walking around and listening to Laurence talk about the different sea creatures. We loved it when he fed the fish in the harbour tank and they came up very close to us. Kingfishers had a brilliant time exploring the sea creatures at Ilfracombe Aquarium. In science, we are finding out about animals, including humans. This week we were totally engrossed in investigating what animals eat and whether they are a herbivore, carnivore or omnivore. How did we find out what animals ate? Well we investigated their 'poo'! This is what we found out - "Poo A - It's a herbivore, that must be the caterpillar's poo!", " Poo B has 'meat in it and feathers - that's is the hawk, it is a carnivore." "Poo C has blackberries, seeds, caterpillars and flies in it - yuck! That's the robin, it eats everything - it's an omnivore!" Swans love going to the park for their weekly tennis lesson with Gary. Kingfishers explored the song Mbube (The Lion Sleeps Tonight) by Soweto Gospel Choir, we discussed the song and then explored our song - Hands, Feet and Heart using our voices and the glockenspiels. "I like the song, I recognise the chorus!"
As part of our topic Discovering Devon, Kingfishers sketched and painted different landscapes from around the county.
Last week, Woodpecker class continued with their excellent start to the year. All the children have settled exceptionally well and are forming new friendships. We have included photos of the children developing their tennis skills and some learning linked to our topic 'Discovering Devon'. Below are a few comments from the children: "Last week, we learned how to be kind to our friends" Graci "We also made friendship tokens to give to our friends" Vesper "In maths, we learned how to compare numbers up to 100" Luka "In handwriting, we have been learning to join our letters" Cleo Swans had lots of fun learning how to strip bark from twigs and how to use natural objects and clay to make dragonflies . |
