The whole school walked down to the Landmark where we enjoyed eating our picnic lunch. We were entertained with juggling and other circus skills which amazed the children. After the show they were able to have a go at using the equipment for themselves and we ended our visit by singing the Teddy Bear's Picnic song together. This week in Elephants Class, we started our new topic about Pirates! We had a great day being pirates. We made a hat, telescope and an eye patch. We sang pirate songs and drew and water coloured our own pirate crew to go on the boat that we also painted. We made a pirate treasure map to guide us on our next adventure! Aaaaarrrrr!!! Zebras class thoroughly enjoyed their Pirate Day. We learned about what pirates do and how to talk like them, then we made our pirate accessories – a hat, eye patch and telescope. We prepared some paper using tea bags to make it look old and then drew our own treasure maps, ripping them to make them look genuine. The children also painted our class pirate ship and drew their own pirates to make the crew. The children in Zebras have enjoyed learning about the life of the Queen and why we are celebrating her Platinum Jubilee. We made flags and crowns to wear as we sang the national anthem in our whole school celebration this afternoon. We also decorated cakes to share with our families. On Friday 27th May the whole school enjoyed celebrating the Queen's Platinum Jubilee. We started the day learning all about Queen Elizabeth and her coronation. We made our own crowns, iced and decorated a Jubilee swiss roll and finally made Union Jack flags. The whole school joined together for a celebration at the end of the day singing the National Anthem and sharing a special Jubilee cake each. Three cheers for the Queen!!!! This Summer term we are enjoying learning tennis with Gary at Bicclescombe Park. We are practising ball control with a racket and sending and receiving the ball. This week Zebras have been making woodland treats for a picnic. They made these videos to show you how to make the treats they enjoyed. Lions class had a wonderful trip into the woods. The children got to explore our beautiful countryside; swishing through the long grass in the fields, squelching through the mud and clambering through the trees. The children enjoyed learning how to identify a range of common flowers and trees. They also stumbled upon a fairy village in a clearing in the trees. The children used their imaginations to build some homes for the fairies. Zebras enjoyed their visit to Goodleigh Woods this week. The children each tied string to a stick to make a memory stick of their journey, adding flowers and grass as we went deeper into the woods. We stopped along the way and looked at the map to see where we were going and to sit under a huge beech tree and feel how cool it was under the canopy of branches. When we reached our destination the children were given the task of rebuilding the fairy village and they worked together enthusiastically to complete new homes. We then retraced our steps back to Goodleigh School where we enjoyed our lunch and had time to play on their willowbank area before our coach came to collect us and bring us home. |
