As part of our Astronaut Day Elephants Class enjoyed training to be an astronaut. We tried walking as if we were on the moon, fast fitness warm ups and we also climbed and moved as if we were in space on the International Space Station. Zebra class enjoyed making their own astronaut helmet on Astronaut Day. They all cut out their own helmet, decorated it and chose whether or not they wanted to attach their helmet to anything. The children really enjoyed being able to dress up as astronauts and they even got their own certificate at the end of completing a day of astronaut training! This week Year One have had Astronaut Day. Lions class enjoyed exploring the moon room that had been set up. There was the moon for them to explore and collect moon rocks with grabbers, the NASA control centre and a rocket. They all had lots of fun!
Today in Outdoor Learning Elephants Class enjoyed creating 'Space' mud art. Some of the children painted rockets landing on planets and others created their own aliens! Lions have been using construction kits this week to explore vehicles with moving parts, before designing and making their own Moon Buggy.
This week Year One have started their maths unit of weight and capacity. The children in Zebras class have enjoyed using the balance scales to weigh two objects to see which is heavier and lighter. This week in maths Year One have been looking at measuring length and height. In Elephants class the children have been using the language of tall, taller, long, longer, short and shorter to compare two objects.
Year One are excited about their new topic on "Space". Zebras really enjoyed visiting a crash landing site in the school. They searched for clues of how the rocket got here and who might be in it. They also had fun creating a space scene with chalk, and used various art forms to decorate the planets in our solar system. Lions have really enjoyed being together again and have had lots of messy, muddy fun in the outdoor area.
