We explored the park and gardens looking at deciduous and evergreen trees and labeling their parts. Then we played in the playground and looked for wild and garden plants. We finished the day with pond dipping where we found frogspawn, tadpoles, frogs and newts.

The children enjoyed pond dipping, where they saw tadpoles, newts and frogs. They also explored the plants around the park discussing wild and garden flowers. The children also looked at deciduous and evergreen trees and labelled their parts.

We looked at a range of artists work that were Flora and Fauna inspired. We then discussed and drew the pieces we liked from their work. Then we focused on insects and did some continuous line drawing, charcoal sketches and added a spot of colour with oil pastel. After that we made collages of an insect in the style of Eric Carle.

They did some great writing, beautiful horse paintings and had a go at making red banners decorated with Chinese symbols for 'luck' and 'peace'.

In Giraffes we have read stories and watched videos on how it is celebrated and wrote about it. We painted horses, as it is the year of the horse, with Chinese inspired brush strokes. We also had a go at writing some Chinese symbols to record our names or inspirational words.

They looked at what each of the buttons did and how the robot responded. Then they looked at creating a route for the robot to follow. They planned the starting and finishing point and the route they wanted to take. This was then programmed into the robot and sent off on the journey. If they were unsuccessful we had to then debug the programme, and work out where they had gone wrong and programme it again.

They then took part in a clay workshop where they created their own animal sculptures using clay and natural materials found around the gardens.

We explored what the watercolour can do on the page using different techniques such as the wet and wet techniques and this effects the paint. We then looked for the image in the paint and began to create the picture within the marks we had made and explored. We then repeated this activity taking inspiration from our topic of Frozen Kingdom and using the colours we had been looking at within this and creating image that would represent all we had looked at within the topic.

We played in ice and with a range of Artic and Antarctic animals. We explored the Northern Lights and created our own pictures of them using brusho and a black sugar paper silhouette. We also made peppermint cream polar bears with chocolate buttons and chips for their details.
