Elephants have learnt about the ‘Lady of The Lamp’ Florence Nightingale and how she transformed hospitals and the training of nurses in the Victorian age. We found out about her life, especially in the Crimean War. We made our own nurse's lamp and also a Crimean War soldier’s hat. We also experienced what a ‘hospital’ was like at the time. We had to clean the hospital to make it ‘germ free’ for the injured soldiers and then we each took care of the sick.
This week Zebras class have enjoyed a whole day learning about Florence Nightingale. We made some lamps to be just like Florence, and some soldier's hats from the Crimean War. We then took these into a hospital role play area and took turns being the soldiers and nurses, cleaning the hospital and bandaging up the wounded soldiers.
This week in Zebra Class we had a Superhero Engage Day. The children all made their own mask and cape and decided what superhero they would want to be and what powers they would have. We all made a superhero lolly stick craft to take home. In the afternoon we had a superhero training camp where the children had to practise their running, jumping, climbing, swinging and rolling just like a real superhero!
Elephants class had great fun being superheroes this week. We had an engage day where we made superhero capes and masks and superhero puppets. Then we had a superhero training camp in the hall where we learnt to jump, leap, swing, slide, climb and roll just like superheroes. In the afternoon we made shelters for our mini superhero figures in the forest school area using lots of natural resources that we found out there.
