In Outdoor Learning, Elephants have been creating their own bug hotels. They have then hidden the hotels around the school so that they can collect them in a couple of weeks and see how many bugs have come for a stay at their 'hotel'!

This week all the children in Year 1 were able to watch 'The Magic Garden' theatre production by Boo To A Goose Theatre. Zebras class really enjoyed getting to join in with the interactive performance and were all laughing along! This week in Zebras the children have been looking closely at photographs of their faces. They then were given a half-photo of their face and had to look closely at their features to sketch the other half. In our outdoor learning, Elephants have been searching for more animals. We have searched under logs and pots, on trees, in the walls and on and under plants. We found lots of different types of invertebrates and enjoyed seeing them in their own habitat. Lions enjoyed meeting Captain Pat who visited school to tell us all about how to protect our environment and keep our oceans clean. We met some of Captain Pat's sea creature friends who told us of the dangers of plastics in the sea. The children had fun searching for Captain Pat's buried treasure and learning about the importance of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. This week Elephants have enjoyed an afternoon of tennis in the park, we continued to develop our ball and tennis skills. After tennis, we went searching in the park for different animals. We spotted lots of birds on the ponds and invertebrates on and under the plants. In the trees we even spotted a squirrel climbing a tree! Lions class has been learning a song called Pirates! The children love the song and really get into character! This week in Zebras class the children have been looking at observational drawings. We looked at the work of Edward Wadsworth and his drawing 'Still Life' and discussed what we thought about his observational drawing of shells. We then had a go at looking closely at some shells and the shapes, textures and patterns that they have before sketching them. We then went back and added shading to our sketches. this week during our pirate engage day, the children created their own pirate treasure maps. They started off by ripping the paper, and tea staining it, then once it was dried they drew their treasure map. This week in Elephant class, during our Pirate engage day, the children all made their own pirate hats and eye patches. |
