This week, Elephants have learnt about the life and achievements of Florence Nightingale. We made lanterns and either a soldier's or nurse's hat, based on the time of the Crimean War. We also took care of the wounded soldiers in our 'hospital'. Elephants also enjoyed walking down to Pip and Jim's Church to sing some Christmas songs and look at the wonderful Christmas Trees.

Zebras enjoyed their visit to the art gallery. They looked at the exhibition pictures and chose their favourite to sketch then experimented with shades of grey using paint and drawing pencils. The children in Lions class had a lovely afternoon making Christmas Tree decorations for The Christmas Tree Festival at Pip and Jim's Church. The children rolled out air dough and used a range of cutters to cut out Christmas shapes. They then used objects around the classroom to experiment printing different textures and patterns into the dough. When the decorations were dry the children painted them with Brusho. Some of the children also used the dough to make some cute little snowmen which have also been nestled into the tree. You can visit the tree, along with all the others, at Pip and Jim's Church from Friday 26th November until Tuesday 30th November, 10am - 3:30pm
We are continuing to have a specialist coach to teach us gymnastics this half term. We have been developing our balances this week. This week Elephants Class had a wonderful art day at the Burton Art Gallery. We were immersed in the local art exhibition called The English Eye by photographer James Ravilious. We then sketched and painted, with watercolours, in the same style as the artist's black and white photographs. Elephants thoroughly enjoyed our Superhero engage day. This week Lions class went to the Burton Art Gallery in Bideford. The children had the opportunity to look around the gallery which is currently displaying black and white photography by James Ravilious. The children discussed what they could see in the photographs and sketched their favourite photo's in their sketch books. After this the children took part in a painting workshop. The children talked about how to mix black and white to make varying shades of grey. They then painted some tree landscapes and portraits, focusing on using grey scale to create light and shade.
Zebras enjoyed practicing all of the different jumping, balancing and rolling skills they have learned in their gymnastics session. Zebras enjoyed making their superhero accessories and completing the superhero training course in P.E. The Children in Lions enjoyed the Year One Superhero engage day this week. The class started off the morning by transforming into superheroes. They made their our own capes and masks and decorated them. Next, the children created beautiful pieces of superhero artwork. They used different colours of Brusho to create the sky and used black paper to make silhouettes of a city skyline. Finally, they drew themselves as a superhero to stick onto their skyline picture. In the afternoon the children had the opportunity to engage in some superhero training. They climbed, crawled, jumped, swung and balanced on a range of large PE equipment.
