Today the children heard about a real life superhero, Florence Nightingale. They learned about her life as a nurse and how the changes she made in the hospital helped the patients to recover. The children were very impressed to learn that Florence was awarded a medal by the Queen. The children made themselves a nurse or soldier hat and a lantern then they immersed themselves into life in a hospital ward in the Crimean War. The children bandaged the soldiers wounds and swept the wards by candlelight while looking out for the rats!
