We walked to Ilfracombe Library and had the story 'The Runaway Pea' read to us by Cath. We then explored the books and toys within the children's library before walking back to school.

Giraffes enjoyed their visit to Rosemoor Gardens to take part in an Inspirational Nature workshop. We explored the gardens and played in 'The Thrash' play area before enjoying lunch in the sunshine. For the workshop we scoured the gardens for a range of natural resources and used these to create our own woodland animals with clay. We then planted some radish seeds before heading back to school. The children enjoyed a visit to the local library. The listened to the story of The Runaway Pea and had time to explore all the amazing books. Year 1 had a brilliant time, designing, making and testing their landing crafts for their eggstronauts. In our science, Year One have been reviewing their understanding of materials and their properties. We have then used this knowledge to create a way to protect an 'Egg-stronaut' and their landing back on Earth. The children had a fabulous time creating their designs and testing them out using real eggs on the playground- ensuring it was a fair test too. Giraffes had a fantastic start to our 'To Infinity and Beyond' topic. We explored a crash site on the school grounds and then wrote about what we thought had happened. We then visited the Planetarium with Murray, where we learnt about the planets and stars of our solar system. In the afternoon we painted the 8 planets of our solar system and the sun using balloons and explored our space themed provision. The children had a great time exploring the crash site in the school grounds and writing about what might have happened. They enjoyed the planetarium experience and continued to explore space in the classroom provision. |
