We welcomed lots of new children and their families to the nursery. The children have all enjoyed lots of free play indoors and outdoors as we settle everyone into the routines of nursery. The children have been imaginative and used their senses to explore Christmas open-ended resources and activities. The children did an amazing Christmas play called "A Wriggly nativity." We were so proud of them for trying hard in rehearsals and also during the final performance where they behaved beautifully and also had lots of fun. The nursery children have been carefully decorating twinkling stars to bring home and hang on the Christmas tree.
The children are learning to name, match, sort and use 2D shapes. After sharing the book "Owl Babies" the children used shapes to make their own owl picture. At group time the children found a shape in the feely bag and tried to guess the shape and use it's name. The children have also been hunting for shapes around the nursery. The nursery children have been exploring resources linked to Diwali- The Hindu festival of light. They watched children doing stick dancing and tried this themselves. The children have been practising their fine motor skills by using different materials to make models and pictures of prickly hedgehogs. They have also been roleplaying in the Hedgehog Hospital. First the children drew spiders, trying to count the eight legs for each one. Next they trickled runny glue all over the paper and then shook over glitter to make the spider's sparkly webs. The children have been interested in spiders in the nursery garden so we have followed this interest by looking at photos of spiders in their webs, and we have made spiders. The children have had to really concentrate to thread the eight legs. We have also been singing "Incy Wincy Spider" together with the actions. |
