It was a beautiful day seeing all the animals at Exmoor Zoo this week. The children also got lots of inspiration and top tips ready for making their animal enclosures in Design Technology. This week Year One have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. After hearing the story of Rapunzel, the children investigated the properties of 3D shapes by building towers and discussing their choices. The children also discussed the properties of 2D shapes and used these criteria for sorting them into groups. This week Year One have been looking at 2D and 3D shapes. They used Lego and a motor to create a moving Lego structure and used algorithms on an ipad to tell the motor what to do. They personalised it by changing the colour of the lights, adding sounds and pictures too! The children learnt how to be robotics engineers! They used a motor to create a moving Lego piece and then used algorithms on the computers to tell the motor what to do. They changed the colour of the lights, how long it span for and even added sounds! The children had a fabulous time with Becki Driscoll this week. We learned a special song just for our school all about life at Ilfracombe Infants, got to explore a range of musical instruments such as guitars and violins before playing together as a band. We then performed our school song together as a whole school in a 'Big Sing' session. The children in Zebras had a great engage day for our new topic Paws, Claws and Whiskers. The children drew different animal eyes and added colour with oil pastels. They then created fantastic animal sculptures with clay and used their collage skills to create animal faces. We kicked of our Paws, Claws and Whiskers topic by doing a range of art activities looking closely at common animals. We started by looking at the eyes of a selection of animals and recreating these using oil pastels. Then we sculpted our own large zoo animal using clay and a range of tools, which look fantastic on our display shelves in the classroom. In the afternoon we learnt a new song called the 'Animal Tea Party' which the children sing beautifully and created an animal face using different papers and a collage technique. The class had a fantastic workshop with musician Becki Driscoll. The children played a range of instruments and created a band. The children also created a song about our school with lyrics created by the children. |
