As part of art, year one have been taking a closer look at birds. We did some observational sketching of birds from videos and close ups. We drew feathers using a range of materials such as oil pastel, charcoal, pen and pencil. Using all of these skills, we created our own birds using card and the different materials we had practiced with. 

The children enjoyed celebrating Holi festival today as a whole school. We wrote about how and why it is celebrated. We then drew self portraits and splattered them with colourful powder paints to celebrate the start of spring. 

Year One enjoyed a day at Bicclescombe Park this week for their topic Wonderful Gardens. The children enjoyed pond dipping, where they saw tadpoles, newts and frogs. They also explored the plants around the park discussing wild and garden flowers. The children also looked at deciduous and evergreen trees and labelled their parts.
