To start our new topic "Roots, shoots and muddy boots" the children have been engaged with activities inspired by the story Jack and the Beanstalk. They have made glittering magic beans from clay and enormous beanstalks from construction toys as well as other play based learning.

Jellyfish have had a busy week celebrating Chinese New Year. The children have learnt about the Chinese zodiac story of "The Great Race"- using puppets to act the story and writing what they can see in the pictures. They have tried copying the symbols in Chinese writing, used chopsticks in sensory play and made amazing lanterns. In the classroom we have had a restaurant serving Chinese food and also watched and tried dragon dancing. The children chopped vegetables when we cooked a sweet and sour stir fry and ate it with their chopsticks! The children have been sharing the book "Peck Peck Peck" by Lucy Cousins. They have been exploring birds imaginatively in the classroom and looking at bird information books. They have played bird bingo- talking about the parts, colours and markings on the birds. Outside they have been ticking off birds with photos and clipboards as well as going on a class bird spotting walk. We have filled bird feeders and hope to attract more birds to the patio area. |
